Derivation of dissipative Boussinesq equations using the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator approach

چکیده
The water wave theory traditionally assumes the fluid to be perfect, thus neglecting all effects of the viscosity. However, the explanation of several experimental data sets requires the explicit inclusion of dissipative effects. In order to meet these practical problems, the theory of visco-potential flows has been developed (see P.-F. Liu & A. Orfila [42] and D. Dutykh & F. Dias [25]). Then, usually this formulation is further simplified by developing the potential in an entire series in the vertical coordinate and by introducing thus, the long wave approximation. In the present study we propose a derivation of dissipative Boussinesq equations which is based on two various asymptotic expansions of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann (D2N) operator. Both employed methods yield the same system at the leading order by different ways.

متن کاملA Simple and Systematic Approach for Implementing Boundary Conditions in the Differential Quadrature Free and Forced Vibration Analysis of Beams and Rectangular Plates
This paper presents a simple and systematic way for imposing boundary conditions in the differential quadrature free and forced vibration analysis of beams and rectangular plates. First, the Dirichlet- and Neumann-type boundary conditions of the beam (or plate) are expressed as differential quadrature analog equations at the grid points on or near the boundaries. Then, similar to CBCGE (direct ...
متن کاملAn efficient approximate method for solution of the heat equation using Laguerre-Gaussians radial functions
In the present paper, a numerical method is considered for solving one-dimensional heat equation subject to both Neumann and Dirichlet initial boundary conditions. This method is a combination of collocation method and radial basis functions (RBFs). The operational matrix of derivative for Laguerre-Gaussians (LG) radial basis functions is used to reduce the problem to a set of algebraic equatio...
متن کاملDirichlet-neumann Kernel for Hyperbolic-dissipative System in Half-space
The purpose of the present paper is to initiate a systematic study of the relation of the boundary values for hyperbolic-dissipative systems of partial differential equations. We introduce a general framework for explicitly deriving the boundary kernel for the Dirichlet-Neumann map. We first use the Laplace and Fourier transforms, and the stability consideration to derive the Master Relationshi...
متن کاملVisco-potential free-surface flows and long wave modelling
In a previous study [DD07b] we presented a novel visco-potential free surface flows formulation. The governing equations contain local and nonlocal dissipative terms. From physical point of view, local dissipation terms come from molecular viscosity but in practical computations, rather eddy viscosity should be used. On the other hand, nonlocal dissipative term represents a correction due to th...
